Myofascial Release
- Myofascial release is a manual therapy technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure to the connective tissues of the body like the fascia, muscles, tendons, and ligaments with one of our chiropractors’ hands. Sometimes the pressure is applied while the region is held in place, while many times the affected region will be taken through specific movements guided by the doctor to optimize the treatment effect to the region.
- The purpose of myofascial release is to reduce pain and tension, increase flexibility and circulation to the region, and improve overall physical function. It’s effective at reducing pain that is a result of injuries, stress, poor posture, or repetitive motions. It is often used to treat musculoskeletal conditions, such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and injuries from sports or car accidents.
Cupping
- Cupping is a therapy where there are cups that elicit a vacuum/decompressive affect on the tissues in the regions they are applied. Our chiropractors utilize multiple cupping methods when clinically indicated. These range from traditional cupping where the cups are applied and left in place. But we also utilize functional and dynamic cupping where the cups may be applied and the patient is instructed on specific movements to reduce restrictions, increase mobility and circulation to the region to facilitate the healing process.
- Functional Cupping: a type of therapy that involves the use of suction cups to create a vacuum on the skin, which is believed to help improve circulation, reduce inflammation, promote healing, and elicit a neuromodulatory effect on the brain with how it perceives the painful region. Unlike traditional cupping, which involves leaving the cups in place for several minutes, functional cupping involves placing the cups in strategic areas over or around the affected area. Once the cups are placed, the patient is then instructed by one of our chiropractors to move the affected regions through specific movements to reduce restrictions and decrease pain. This helps to create a massage-like effect on the tissues, which can help to release tension, improve tissue glide, and promote healing.
- Dynamic Cupping: a type of cupping therapy that involves one of our chiropractors moving the cups over the skin rather than leaving them stationary in one place. This technique is believed to help release tension, increase circulation and promote healing in the affected area. This can create a massage-like effect on the tissues, helping to release tension and promote blood flow.
Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and Graston Technique®
At Motus, we utilize advanced therapies like Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and the Graston Technique® to effectively treat soft tissue injuries and restrictions. Both methods involve using specialized instruments to detect and target areas of tissue adhesion, scar tissue, and inflammation, which helps to reduce pain, improve mobility, and support healing. IASTM uses tools to mobilize muscles, tendons, and fascia, promoting localized inflammation to enhance blood flow and remodel scar tissue. Similarly, Graston Technique® applies controlled pressure with stainless steel instruments to break up scar tissue and alleviate stiffness.
These therapies are beneficial for conditions like tendinitis, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and chronic pain. To maximize results, we often combine these techniques with stretching, exercise, and patient education.
Compression Flossing
- Compression flossing, also known as muscle flossing or voodoo flossing, is a technique used in sports rehabilitation and performance training that involves wrapping a joint or muscle with a specialized elastic band or floss in a tight and compressive manner to create pressure on the underlying tissues. The band or floss is typically made of a stretchy material, such as latex or rubber, and is applied to the skin over the targeted area. Once its applied, its left in place typically just for a couple of minutes while the patient is guided by their chiropractor through specific movements. This increases mobility, improves circulation, and decreases pain.
- Compression flossing has been used in the management of various musculoskeletal conditions, including joint and muscle pain, swelling, and limited mobility. It is commonly used in sports rehabilitation and performance training settings to help athletes recover from injuries, improve movement patterns, and optimize performance. As with any form of manual therapy, it is important to consult with one of chiropractors to determine whether compression flossing is appropriate for your individual needs and condition. One of our chiropractors can help you to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific goals and concerns.
Rocktape Kinesiology Taping
- RockTape is commonly used in sports and athletic settings to provide support for injured or overused muscles, joints, and ligaments, and to help athletes return to activity more quickly. It is also used in non-sports-related settings to manage pain, support musculoskeletal health, and promote recovery from injuries or surgeries.
- The tape is typically applied to the skin in specific patterns and tension levels to achieve desired therapeutic goals, such as supporting muscles and joints, reducing inflammation, and improving proprioception (the body’s sense of position and movement).
- RockTape is a type of kinesiology tape that is known for its durability, elasticity, and adhesive strength. It is designed to provide support, reduce pain, and facilitate movement and function. RockTape is made of high-quality fabric material that is stretchable and breathable, allowing for natural movement and flexibility. It is hypoallergenic and water-resistant, allowing it to be worn during various activities, including sports, exercise, and water-based activities.
